Clinical Consultation

I believe that we must practice in community with one another if we are to be effective with our clients. I have noticed that we therapists often have the urge to dismiss or override our feelings and reactions in the room with clients, but I believe that our experience - what we feel, what we find ourselves doing or not doing, saying or not saying - offers us invaluable clinical information.

Individual & Group Consultation

In order to support clients living in fat bodies in the deepest possible ways, I believe it is imperative that psychotherapists who work with these clients learn about fat lived experience. Fat scholarship, art, organizing and other liberation work can provide a frame for understanding your fat clients’ experiences.

Also called anti-fat bias, anti-fatness refers to: “the attitudes, behaviors, and social systems that specifically marginalize, exclude, underserve, and oppress fat bodies” (Gordon, 2020, p. 10).

I can offer something unique to fat clients and to the therapists who partner with them in psychotherapy: lived experience of navigating an anti-fat world in a fat body. I feel passionate about collaborating with therapists as they confront their [internalized]* anti-fatness and learn to hold it with greater compassion.

*Though we all participate in anti-fatness, only folks who are or have been fat experience internalized anti-fatness.

It is not fatness but anti-fatness that represents the biggest threat to fat people’s health and wellbeing.

Consultation Group for Larger-Bodied Therapists

Calling all therapists living in fat bodies! This consultation group is just for us. Let’s get together and build community, discuss cases, share knowledge and resources and support one another as we navigate our anti-fat field (and world at large).

This group is open to visibly fat therapists with existing caseloads (student interns welcome!) and will utilize an anti-oppressive, Queer- and Trans-affirming, Fat Liberation lens. Though we will always make space for discussing cases and addressing clinical questions, we may also explore such topics as:

-Coping with and addressing anti-fatness as we encounter it: with clients and colleagues, in organizations and professional networks, at trainings and events, and in the world

-Personal and professional boundaries around anti-fatness

-Grappling with our own [internalized] anti-fatness

-Applying Fat Liberation principles to our work

Beginning Friday, January 12th, 2024 the group will meet on the second Friday of each month from 1-2:30 pm.

The group will meet in person at 5215 N. Ravenswood Ave. (suite 212). Please be vaxxed + boosted against COVID and bring a mask!

Fee: sliding scale, $60-100 per group

Only 2 spots left!

Curious about the group? Interested in joining? Email me or fill out the form below! We’ll schedule a call to discuss what you are hoping to get out of the group.
